Let's hear it for pointless features!

Shall we play a game?

If you're feeling too lazy to actually read my posts, now you can click the 'Speak It' link on each entry to have them read to you. The first 49 words of them, anyway, since that is the maximum it will handle. It works well with short posts like this one.

I normally try to avoid putting useless widgets in my site but this just appeals to the little kid in me. When I was 12 I dreamed of having a computer talk to me like in War Games.

Here's the how-to in case you'd like to implement it on your site.

I love that the reader stops at "It works" on this post, as though it didn't want to admit there would be a qualifier.

Heh yeah I love the vocal inflection it uses because while sometimes it is fitting, often it seems like the voice has a weird emotional reaction to stuff.

There's a feature on my Mac that reads anything you type into Simple Text in a computer voice. So of course, I make it swear a lot.

The funny thing about this speak it feature is that by the time you're finished downloading the file (on my 56k, anyway) you could have read the post a couple of times already.

so weird that you should mention wargames. I just sat up until 3 watching it on the late movie last night. Man, computers used to be gigantic. It's a really funny movie in retrospect.

Aw Susan, I didn't know you were on 56k. I'll pray for you.
