Some random items

I just now saw that B2 posted one of his entries from right before 9/11/01 to, as he says, commemorate 9/10, that hazy, happy time of innocence when airliners didn't crash into skyscrapers and Osama bin Laden was just some kook hiding out in the Middle East. I thought that was a cool idea. One of my favorite weblog posts is this one from September 9th 2001. Unfortunately the link to the Mr. Potato Head that stores his extra parts up his ass no longer works. Things fall apart. It's scientific.

By the way, that post is from the time beyond memory before Rosie officially came out. Just so you don't think I was being Captain Obvious. Well, really, I guess it was obvious even then.

If you were wondering why I didn't make a post regarding my feelings about 9/11, I did in my own backwards kind of way. You know the scene where Harold sees that Maude has a concentration camp tattoo, but he doesn't say anything and they just keep talking about seagulls? That movie is my seagull. I needed one yesterday.

"Dreyfus once wrote," said Maude softly, "that on Devil's Island he would see the most glorious birds. Many years later in Brittany he realized they had only been seagulls."

She looked at Harold and smiled.

"To me," she said, "they will always be glorious birds."
- Harold and Maude

I'm only awake at 5 AM because I have to drive mom to the hospital in a couple hours for a little procedure. It's not life-threatening and I'm sure she'll be fine, but send a few spare good vibes her way to make sure it's quick and painless if you don't mind.

Oh yeah, speaking of good vibes, my skin condition* has almost fully cleared. It's still not 100% better but it's so much improved that I may actually go outside wearing shorts. It sounds silly, I know, but to me it's like when the boy in the plastic bubble finally goes outside. It's so hot here in Florida that wearing long pants to avoid stares and questions can be very hot and uncomfortable. I'm really elated at the improvement. It almost makes up for gaining seven of those nine pounds back.

Oh yeah, I also have a funny story about an unexpected package that arrived at the office today and had Arabic writing all over it. I'm saving that one until I can include pictures, though, so you'll have to tune in on Sunday or Monday.

(*third item on this page for the gory details)
